Institute for Teaching & Learning
- Support
of faculty using iTV
- Technology
support the electronic infrastructure that enables the
course to be delivered at a distance.
- Maintain
and upkeep of all systems
- Record
classes as necessary
- Remotely
monitor all calls and ensure connectivity.
- Provide
remote technical assistance for instructors as
well as proctors (Technical assistants) regardless
of location.
- Student
technology assistants in Storrs. This individual
should not be used to manage the classroom in the class
nor should
they
be used for proctoring exams
- All
training of staff, including instructors, student
technology assistants, and regional support staff,
as required
- Student
training it is important to help students learn how to
use this medium most effectively including asking/answering
questions and working well singly, or in groups, at the
remote sites.
- Remote end support with effort being put
into the above, it is critical that the physical and supervisory
pieces are in place at the remote site.
Regional Campuses
- iTV rooms should primarily be used for distance learning. iTV
courses should take precedence over other uses for these
classrooms.
- iTV courses require a minimum of 15 minutes before and after
class of unscheduled time.
- iTV instructors routinely travel between campuses to alternate
their teaching location, effort should be made to provide
a preparation/meeting space before and after the scheduled
class.
- Someone to open rooms and make sure
system is up and running, no later than 15 minutes prior
to the start of class, and turn equipment off at the end of the class.
- Student Technology Assistants (STA) should be located at each
site. This individual should not be used to manage the classroom
nor should they be used for proctoring exams. The student assistant
should also not be actively enrolled in the course for which he/she
is assisting. Training of the technology assistants also needs
to be in place (ITL or local).
- Provide exam proctors (non undergrad) for in class exams and classroom management (if necessary).
- In
the event that an STA or Exam Proctor is not available, local staff will
find a suitable replacement.
Departments/Instructors
- Notification
(Registrar, Regional & ITL) of courses which
will be offered via iTV using web based request form http://itlweb.uconn.edu/itv . The registrars
office builds calendars two semesters in advance.
- Recommend
faculty take advantage of ITL services (iTV Training,
Visit support, course design,) preferably, these activities
should
begin 6-12 months before the start of the course.
- Provide advanced notification of exam schedules to ITL (iTV manager). This will ensure regional campuses have adequate time to schedule proctors.
Registrars
- Unique
designation for courses being offered via iTV (similar
to online).
- ITL
and the Storrs Registrar ask that each campus utilize
our web-based request form for all iTV courses and populate
a
central calendar (Astra).
- Schedule
iTV course exams in the same manner used with non-iTV
courses. Exams must occur during exam week, and unless
coordinated
ahead of time rooms will not be connected using video
conferencing (Departments/Instructors are responsible for
coordinating
appropriate exam proctors).
ITL
requires that a block of time each week (2-4 hrs) be set
aside in each iTV classroom in order to
allow for routine maintenance and upgrades. ITL will make
every effort to schedule these blocks on Fridays. In order
to allow for better coordination of efforts.
